Work Readiness Activities

Positive Steps offers a range of “in house” AQA accredited preplacement activities and we aim to support students’ personal development through “developing responsible, respectful and active citizens who are able to play their part and become actively involved in public life.” (Ofsted Handbook 2020)

The Employment & Skills Service team work extremely hard in developing and improving young people's work readiness and softer skills set through "character education" and have developed the following group activities (no more than 6 per group) that are available for you to refer into:

DIY Home Maintenance

This will provide students with an insight into the world of construction related learning and support students with a practical understanding of basic plumbing, woodwork and electrical techniques that can be utilised around the home. Community based activities is also built into the end of each 8-week program.

Positive Cycles

Delivered in our bespoke cycle workshop and retail outlet and students learn all aspects of bicycle maintenance and customer service. Students will help refurbish donated bicycles to be sold back to the local community.


Empower young females to overcome their confidence and self-esteem barriers so to enable them to see a way forward and move towards a place where they can take control. Activities will include group team bonding exercises, personal care, online safety, cookery and creative arts, meeting inspirational females and linking progression into the world of work

Pre-Gym Fitness and Mental Wellbeing

Sessions seek to provide students with proven tools and techniques that improves their mental and physical health. Activities typically include circuit training, self-defence, tai chi, mindfulness, meditation, nutrition, yoga and team building exercises to improve self-confidence and to improve emotional wellbeing

One to One bespoke mentoring

Session are available upon request. Young people who are not quite ready to engage and would benefit from intensive one to one nurturing from one of our vastly experienced transition mentors is also available. Sessions are charged hourly and can be delivered in school or off site.
