The Role

We are looking to recruit an experienced individual to join us as Career Coach, providing impartial information and advice to young people and their families, as part of the new Families First Partnership Programme, with the aim of broadening horizons. This role includes supporting personal development, taking an innovative approach to engagement and support, and supporting people towards employment.

The successful candidate will recognise and value the importance of a whole-family approach and demonstrate a commitment to supporting us to provide young people and their families with the skills, knowledge, experience and motivation that they will need to be successful.

This role includes face to face and virtual, 1:1 and group activities, mainly delivered in community settings and clients’ homes. This secondment role will primarily focus on the South area of Oldham, and you would be expected to travel throughout the Borough.

You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team to bring intervention and support to families at the earliest opportunity. You will be required to establish effective partner relationships with colleges, training and learning providers, employers and key partners offering support to families.

The Families First Partnership Programme (FFP) is a once in a generation chance to reshape Children’s Social Care alongside the local authority, education, police, health, voluntary, faith, community groups and most importantly our residents, to change and improve our offer of help and protection. Through this work, we will create a system that delivers better experiences, stronger relationships, and lasting change—where families feel supported, professionals feel empowered, and children thrive.

Families First Partnership encourages services to work together and take a more joined-up, family-focused approach to early help and child protection. The programme focuses on:

  • Giving the right Family Help at the right time
  • Creating Multi-Agency Child Protection Teams (MACPTs)
  • Using Family Group Decision Making to involve families in their own support

It is informed by a range of legislation and reviews including the Working Together to Safeguard Children framework and the findings from the MacAlister report, and its aim is to make sure children and families get the right support they need, when they need it.

This is our moment to make it happen—let’s do it together! If you are interested, please feel free to contact Donna Marshall via email donnamarshall@positive-steps.org.uk
