How we support young offenders

Here at Oldham Youth Justice Service we are committed to ensuring victims  are treated with respect and are listened to.

We recognise that when you are harmed by crime it can be a really difficult time. You may have suffered financially, physically or emotionally which can impact on your life.

We really hope that as a service we are able to help in some way. We are determined to help you in any way we can.

What can our service offer you?

  • Updates as and when you would like then in relation to the offenders progress whilst open to our service whether they are serving community or custodial sentences.

  • Restorative Justice (see below more info relating to this)

  • Support and help making referrals on your behalf to relevant services that may be able to help you moving forward.

  • Opportunity to share your views and concerns.

  • We want you to feel safe therefore will consider if any safety measures need to be put in place such as none contact.

What is Restorative Justice?

Restorative Justice gives you the chance to meet or communicate with the person who has caused harm. It allows you  to explain the real impact of the crime and how It has affected you. It can leave you feeling empowered and gives you the opportunity to have your say on what has happened and have any questions answered . Restorative Justice also helps the person who has caused harm accept responsibility.

What support services can we refer you to (but not limited to): 

  • Victim support

  • Mental health services such as MIND / CAHMS / Healthy Minds

  • Bereavement support
