At Positive Steps, we see Restorative Justice not just as a method, but as a path to healing, understanding, and rebuilding. Instead of focusing solely on punishment, we address the harm caused by offenses by encouraging open communication and understanding. Our unique approach emphasises building trust, relationships, and connections to create safer, stronger communities.
What is Restorative Justice?
Restorative Justice is about repairing harm. It provides a space for the person harmed and the person responsible to communicate, reflect, and understand the impact of the offense. This process focuses on accountability, empathy, and finding a resolution, rather than assigning blame.
Some of our Restorative Justice Offerings
Face To Face Meetings
These meetings take place in a neutral, supportive setting where both parties can share their experiences. This dialogue often leads to moments of healing and understanding that wouldn’t happen otherwise.
Letter of Apology
A written apology allows the person responsible to express their regret in their own words. The letter is shared with the person harmed, who can respond or give feedback, leading to meaningful dialogue even when in-person communication isn’t possible.
Giving Back
Through our Positive Steps Giving Back Program, victims can suggest ways for young people to contribute to the community. Whether it’s planting trees, cleaning parks, or helping at events, these actions rebuild trust and repair harm in a practical, impactful way.
What makes Positive Steps different is our dedication to building authentic, trusting relationships with the young people we support. We create a safe environment where they can face their actions, make amends, and move forward in positive ways.
Our approach also focuses on community reintegration. By challenging stereotypes and helping victims and offenders see each other as human, we foster stronger, more connected communities while reducing the risk of reoffending.
The Transformative Power of Restorative Justice
Restorative Justice at Positive Steps is more than a process; it’s a journey of growth and understanding. For victims, it provides a sense of closure and the opportunity to talk about how they felt. For young offenders, it offers the chance to take responsibility and work towards a brighter future. Together, these outcomes lead to stronger, more resilient communities.
If you’re looking for a Restorative Justice program that goes beyond the basics—one that invests deeply in relationships and community—get in touch with Positive Steps. Together, we can build a brighter, safer future for everyone.
