Yesterday, August 21st, marked the monumental opening of the new Therapy Room at Positive Steps in Oldham, a space dedicated to supporting young people in their mental wellbeing and confidence as they navigate the next steps in their lives, whether it be training or employment. The room’s design and resources were shaped by the invaluable feedback from the young people themselves, ensuring it meets their needs and provides a safe haven for personal growth.
At the event, Carmen Cheung, Wellbeing Practitioner, who will be leading the sessions in the new space, expressed her excitement: “It has been amazing to see the reaction from the young people because their feedback was at the forefront of how we designed the therapy room. I’m really looking forward to delivering the sessions and having them use the room now that we have opened it to the community.”
The opening was attended by several notable guests, including Harry Catherall, Chief Executive of Oldham Council, who was given a tour of the facility by Positive Steps CEO, Paul Axon. The event was also an opportunity to express deep gratitude to Diodes, whose generous funding made the redesign and resource acquisition for the room possible. The HR team from Diodes, including HR Business Partner Katie Wainwright, attended the event and were given a tour of the building to learn more about the vital work Positive Steps does with youth across Oldham and Greater Manchester.
After viewing the room and speaking with Carmen Cheung, Katie Wainwright shared her thoughts: “We as an organisation are proud to be sponsoring the Therapy Room, which provides an incredible wellbeing offer, and we are glad it will be benefitting the young people. As an organisation, we are passionate about wellbeing, and we prioritise this within Diodes. We look forward to the room being used further and truly hope this Therapy Room will be used by as many young people as possible to help them with their wellbeing and confidence.”
The new Therapy Room at Positive Steps is set to be a vital resource for the youth of Oldham, offering a supportive environment where they can focus on their mental health and build the confidence they need to take their next steps in life.
