How Positive Steps helped me into an apprenticeship with Tameside Council

Careers

I used to go to college, studying sociology, criminology, and law. One day after not receiving the test score, I wanted on one of my exams, I decided I wanted a change. I started volunteering at my local charity shop, whilst also seeking support to find work from Positive Steps.

Everybody on the careers team were really helpful and really listened to me, when I explained to them what it was, I hoped to achieve. They were never far away if ever I needed some last-minute advice, whether this was by phone, email, or meeting face to face in one of their drop-in centres.

After only a few months of working together, I was offered a position as a Business Administration Apprentice working for Tameside Council under Childrens Social Care for Childrens Services, which I successfully started in September 2023.

This experience has made me realise that you don’t have to start an apprenticeship right outside of school, that anybody can apply to be an apprentice, at any age, any time.  I will be forever grateful to Positive Steps for all the help and support they have given me, to get me where I am today. I cannot thank them all enough.
